The Hindu University of Banaras (BHU) will now offer four-year Bachelor of Technology courses in Dairy Technology and Food Technology. These courses will be the responsibility of the university’s dairy science and food technology department. The courses will be offered from the next academic session 2021-22.
The dairy industry and food technology is growing at a rate of 20 percent and there is a need to have a skilled workforce in the region. New BTech programs are being introduced to fill this gap, BHU said.
“The main objective of introducing these courses is to ensure that the status of the Department of Agricultural Sciences further improves. This will add to the prestige of the university and also contribute to a better ranking, ”the university said in an official statement.
These courses will follow the recommendations and guidelines issued by the Indian Agricultural Research Council (ICAR). ICAR has already granted the status of eminent institution to the Department of Agricultural Sciences of BHU. The university’s dairy science and food technology department is headed by Professor Dinesh Chandra Rai.
