The ingredient will be produced through a patent pending process developed by Montana Microbial Products, which uses whole barley grains to create a nutrient-dense protein ingredient. It will be GMO-free and traceable. According to Scoular, Emerge will be the only barley protein on the market for feed customers.
Scoular plans to begin commercial production of its barley protein concentrate in January 2022.

The company first announced this business and its partnership with Montana Microbial Products in June 2020. Jerome was selected as the location for the new facility in August 2020, and the business name “Emerge” was announced in May 2021.
This is one of the many pet-centric businesses that Scoular is currently invested in. The company launched Petsource by Scoular in March 2019, a high-end freeze-dried protein manufacturing company specifically serving the pet food industry. After investing an initial $ 50 in a facility in Seward, Neb., Scoular announced in November 2021 another $ 75 million investment to triple the plant’s production capacity.
