The latest figures on the big data patents of agri-food manufacturers

The number of big data-related patents filed by food manufacturers has fallen in recent months – but remains higher than a year earlier, according to an analysis by GlobalData.

The latest figures show that the number of industry patent applications related to big data rose to nine in the three months to January, compared to two in the same period of 2021.

The figures for the number of granted patents followed a different pattern from filings, with nine approvals in the two periods.

Big Data is one of the key areas tracked by GlobalData. It has been identified as a key disruptive force that companies will face in the years to come and is one of the areas where companies currently investing resources are expected to reap rewards.

Taiwanese food and beverage group Uni-President China Holdings filed four big data-related patents in the three months to January. That was up from one over the same period in 2021.
