BOULDER, COLO. – On April 4, the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) announced its 30-Day Earth Day Rally to inspire 10,000 sustainable actions starting April 22 to celebrate Earth Day. Using a platform, pet industry players will complete mini-challenges that will provide businesses with education on sustainability and corporate responsibility.
“Programs like the Earth Day Rally move everyone forward on their journey to a sustainable business model and lifestyle while smashing through the competition and tapping into our networks to inspire our larger group to take action,” said said Caitlyn Dudas, co-founder and executive director, SPC.
PSC’s 2022 Earth Day Rally marks its first multi-stakeholder sustainability initiative. PSC has partnered with the Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA), the Pet Advocacy Network (PAN, formerly PIJAC, the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council), the American Pet Products Association (APPA), the World Pet Association ( WPA), the National Animal Veterinary Council and IndiePet to bring the program to life.
“We recognize the important links between human, animal and environmental health. This is a great opportunity to deliver on that commitment,” said Mike Bober, President and CEO of PAN.
The Earth Day Rally program builds on PSC’s previous 2020 campaign which worked to inspire 1,000 actions towards a more diverse, equitable and inclusive industry. The 2020 campaign was successful with over 6,000 actions.
To achieve its goal for Earth Day 2022, PSC has also partnered with pet businesses within its extensive network.
“The Pet Sustainability Coalition’s first annual Earth Day Rally is an exciting new opportunity for the pet industry to come together and use their collective energy as a force for good,” said Stephanie. Volo, Marketing Director at Earth Animal. “As participating company employees engage in the challenge, they will become more aware of the many ways, large and small, that people can take meaningful action to address climate change.”
PSC’s sponsors for its Earth Day Rally include Pet Food Experts, Earth Animal, Instinct, West Paw, Healthy Pet, Pet Food Institute, ProAmpac, Champion Petfoods, MPM, Primal Pet Foods and many more.
“Instinct believes it is up to all of us to take immediate action, large and small, to stop and reverse the damage we are causing to the planet,” said Gordon Dumesich, Chief Growth and Marketing Officer at Instinct. “We would like to use Earth Day to raise our collective consciousness about what we can do here and now to improve our world. We set a goal to complete 800 actions that help us live our purpose, which goes far beyond transforming the lives of pets – it’s also about transforming our planet.
All pet industry professionals are encouraged to participate in the PSC Earth Day Rally. By joining and becoming an “Earth Day Activator,” individuals and teams can take a variety of earth-friendly actions from April 22 through May 22.
