TIPA Launches Home Compostable Clear Laminate for Food Packaging

The new laminate has the same functionality as TIPA’s T.LAM 607 but is TUV OK Home Compost certified, which means it can be disposed of in home composting bins where it will decompose without leaving toxic pollutants.

TIPA has stated that T.LAM 608 will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the landfill of food waste by providing consumers with the option to dispose of their food in their home composting bins while remaining in their home. packaging – eliminating the need to separate any food from the packaging it arrived in.

When sent to landfill, food rots and releases methane, a greenhouse gas about 80 times more powerful at warming the planet than carbon dioxide. According to the Garden Organic charity, a single household compost bin diverts around 150 kg of waste from landfills each year.

The launch marks the latest addition to TIPA’s portfolio of packaging solutions designed to replace conventional plastic.

The manufacturer describes TIPA’s T.LAM 608 as a transparent 2-layer laminate with a medium barrier and excellent sealing, optical and mechanical properties. It can be converted to pre-made pouches such as upright pouches, zipper pouches, open pouches, side gusset pouches, pillow bags and bar wrappers and is available as spools for VFFS and HFFS machines .

Developed to support pioneering food and supplement brands that move away from conventional plastic, it is suitable for packaging energy bars, dried fruits, nuts, legumes, grains, cereals, granola, ‘spices, dry pasta, ready meals and more.

Eli Lancry, Vice President, Technology at TIPA, said: “T.LAM 608 is one of the most exciting developments I have worked on. We’ve created a packaging solution that really works for people and for the planet. It is home compostable and functions like conventional plastic, providing convenience to the consumer while reassuring brands that the quality of their product will be protected.
